Deborah Clements, MD, chair of Family and Community Medicine, will be a member of the National Resident Matching Program’s board of directors for a four-year term beginning July 1.

Deborah Clements, MD, chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, has been appointed as a member of the National Resident Matching Program’s (NRMP) board of directors.

The NRMP is a non-profit organization that matches fourth-year medical students to U.S. residency programs. This year’s Match Day included 42,370 registered applicants and 30,750 positions.

“As a member of the National Residency Matching Program’s board of directors, I’ll be accountable for refining the methods used to facilitate the initial fit between residency candidates and programs,” said Clements, who is also the Nancy and Warren Furey Professor of Community Medicine.

The organization also conducts fellowship matches.

“The NRMP Board ensures fidelity of the system and is striving towards improvements in the entire process to reduce the time and economic burden of securing a residency or fellowship position, as well as to continue to ensure fairness and confidentiality,” Clements explained.

Her four-year term will begin July 1.

“I’m delighted and honored to have been selected as a member of this organization and will bring a perspective based on my academic work in the primary care workforce and graduate medical education over the past two decades,” Clements said.

Nationally recognized for her contributions to education policy, Clements joined Feinberg in 2013. Prior to that, she served as director of the training program and vice chair for residency education in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
