Accepted Students Take a “Second Look” at the School

Second Look 2004Approximately 150 prospective students accepted to the Feinberg School’s incoming Class of 2008 will take a second look at the school as part of “Second Look Weekend.” The annual revisit weekend for accepted students begins with a welcome reception on Thursday evening, April 15, and ends on Saturday, April 17. During the weekend, prospective students will hear from Delores Brown, MS, MEd, associate dean for admissions; Raymond H. Curry, MD, GME ’85, executive associate dean for education; Angela Nuzzarello, MD, MHPE, assistant dean for professional development; and John X. Thomas Jr., PhD, associate dean for educational programs (pictured above), as well as from a panel of faculty teachers and current students. Prospective students will also engage in small-group discussions about dual-degree programs, research opportunities, and problem-based learning. Other fun activities include lunch at a local restaurant with current medical students, a Student Clubs and Organizations Fair, and dinner at various Chicago restaurants popular among current students. The weekend concludes on Saturday with a brunch and financial aid presentation.

Says Associate Dean Brown, “Second Look Weekend is a great way to showcase the medical school—our spectacular location in the heart of Chicago and our wonderful students and faculty. Many current students who attended previous ‘Second Looks’ said their decision to matriculate was based on their positive experiences during the weekend. Retention from Second Look Weekend has varied from year to year, but we generally see about a 57–60 percent retention rate from the event, which constitutes more than 50 percent of the entering class.”
