Noted Cardiologist to Give Feinberg Lecture on March 8

CHICAGO—Elizabeth G. Nabel, MD, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), will speak at the 10th Annual Frances Feinberg Lecture at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in the Conference Center of the Feinberg Pavilion, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, 251 E. Huron St., third floor.

A reception will be held at 4 p.m. in the atrium on the third floor of the pavilion.

Dr. Nabel, an internationally renowned researcher in vascular biology and genetic therapies for cardiovascular disease, will discuss “Genomic Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.”

A board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Nabel was appointed director of the NHLBI in 2005. She joined the NHLBI in 1999 as the institute’s scientific director of clinical research. She also served as the chief of the institute’s Vascular Biology Section, directing research on the molecular, cellular, and genetic mechanisms that cause vascular disorders.

Elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 1998, Dr. Nabel is also a member of the Association of American Physicians, American Society of Clinical Investigation, and several other professional societies.

The Frances Feinberg Memorial Lecture was established in 1995 to honor the memory of Mrs. Reuben Feinberg, who, as an officer of the Joseph and Bessie Feinberg Foundation, helped endow the Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute and the Louis Feinberg Professorship at Northwestern.

Mrs. Feinberg was a major supporter of the arts, sciences, and education, especially medical and scientific research. Since her death, the Feinberg Foundation has endowed the Feinberg Clinical Neuroscience Research Institute at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and the Feinberg Pavilion of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The lecture is free of charge. For more information, contact the Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute office at 312/503-2296.
