Mary J.C. Hendrix, PhD, professor of pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine and president and scientific director of the Children’s Memorial Research Center, has been appointed to the Board of Scientific Advisors for the National Cancer Institute.
June M. McKoy, MD, MPH, JD, assistant professor of medicine and an attending physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, was one of 35 fellows inducted in October into Leadership Greater Chicago, a civic organization that develops leadership skills to address the area’s needs.
Kelly E. Ormond, MS, assistant professor of medicine and director of the Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling, has been elected president of the National Society of Genetic Counselors. She also was instrumental in the recent effort in Illinois to pass legislation requiring mandatory licensure of genetic counselors. Illinois is one of three states including California and Utah that requires such licensure.
Jacob I. Sznajder, MD, Dr. Roy Patterson Professor of Medicine and chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine, has become deputy editor for Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society.
In October Francis G. Szele, PhD, assistant professor of pediatrics, was awarded the Bernard Mirkin Research Scholar Chair at the Children’s Memorial Research Center. His research focuses on the biology of stem cells in the brain and their responses to brain injury.
