Honors & Appointments
Robert D. Goldman, PhD, Stephen Walter Ranson Professor and chair of cell and molecular biology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, has received a senior scholar award from the Ellison Medical Foundation for his project, “Nuclear Lamin A Mutations in Progeria.” The Ellison Foundation also presented new scholar awards to Jaime Grutzendler, MD, assistant professor of neurology, for a project titled “Dynamics of Neuronal-Microglia Infections in Alzheimer’s Disease” and Liming Li, PhD, research associate professor of radiology, for his study, “Facilitate Prion Research Using C. elegans.”
On September 1, Richard Longnecker, PhD, professor of microbiology—immunology, became director of the Integrated Graduate Program (IGP) in the Life Sciences. The IGP is the umbrella organization for all graduate student training in the basic science and clinical departments at the Feinberg School. A member of the Northwestern faculty since 1993, Dr. Longnecker holds a PhD degree in virology from the University of Chicago.
Lauren M. Pachman, MD, professor of pediatrics and an attending physician at Children’s Memorial Hospital, will receive a clinical research award from the American Academy of Rheumatology during its annual scientific meeting October 16â21 in San Antonio, Texas.
In June the American Physical Therapy Association presented its Lucy Blair Service Award to Babette S. Sanders, PT, MS, assistant professor of physical therapy and human movement sciences, during the group’s annual conference in Chicago.
Robert P. Schleimer, PhD, is the new chief of the Division of Allergy-Immunology at the Feinberg School. Dr. Schleimer received his doctoral degree in pharmacology and toxicology in 1980 from the University of California at Davis. A faculty member at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore before joining Northwestern this year, Dr. Schleimer is also professor of medicine.
Stephen F. Sener, MD, professor of surgery and an attending physician at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, in November will become president of the American Cancer Society.
