Honors & Appointments
The American College of Cardiology has awarded its 2006 Distinguished Service Award to Robert O. Bonow, MD, Max and Lilly Goldberg Distinguished Professor of Cardiology and division chief at the Feinberg School.
On March 2 in Essen, Germany, Andrea E. Dunaif, MD, received the German Endocrine Society’s Berthold Medal and delivered the award lecture. Dr. Dunaif is the Charles F. Kettering Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism and chief of the endocrinology division. She also will travel to Athens, Greece, on March 29 to receive an honorary degree from the University of Athens.
Mary J.C. Hendrix, PhD, professor of pediatrics, received the Henry Gray Award, the highest honor awarded by the American Association of Anatomists. Dr. Hendrix, who is also president and scientific director of Children’s Memorial Research Center, will be honored April 4 during the association’s annual meeting in San Diego.
J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, Irving S. Cutter Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine, has been appointed to the selection committee for the Albert Lasker Medical Research Awards. Dr. Jameson also serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Namratha R. Kandula, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine, has been named to the National Advisory Committee for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Local Initiatives Funding Program. Committee members advise the foundation on supporting innovative, community-based projects to improve health and health care for vulnerable populations.
On March 1 the Feinberg School of Medicine’s Division of Hematology/Oncology welcomed a new chief: Jonathan D. Licht, MD. A native of New York City, Dr. Licht received his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and MD degree from Columbia University. Prior to joining Northwestern, Dr. Licht was chief of hematology/oncology and associate dean for cancer programs at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
In late March at the biannual meeting of the Society for Research on Adolescence in San Francisco, Daniel Offer, MD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, will be honored for 35 years of service to the Journal of Youth and Adolescence. He will continue to serve on the journal’s advisory board as editor emeritus.
William T. McKinney, MD, was recognized by Baylor University on January 20 in Waco, Texas, as one of four distinguished alumni for 2006. Dr. McKinney, who received his MD degree from Baylor in 1959, is the Norman and Helen Asher Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and director of the Asher Center for the Study and Treatment of Depressive Disorders.
Glenn Ramsey, MD, associate professor of pathology, has been appointed for a three-year term to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability. Dr. Ramsey also is medical director of the Blood Bank at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The Medical Library Association will honor Linda J. Walton, associate director of the Galter Health Sciences Library, as the 2006 Estella Brodman Academic Medical Librarian of the Year on May 22 during the group’s annual meeting in Phoenix.
