Northwestern Hospitals Rank Among the Best by U.S. News & World Report

In its annual Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News & World Report has once again recognized Northwestern Medicine hospitals as leaders in clinical excellence. For the 12th consecutive year, Northwestern Memorial Hospital has been named to the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, a select group of only 22 hospitals recognized for their exceptional performance across specialties, procedures and conditions.

“Our rankings reflect the dedication of our outstanding physicians, nurses and staff to the patients they care for and the communities we serve,” said Howard B. Chrisman, MD, MBA, president and chief executive officer of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “It is this shared commitment and focus that allows us to push the boundaries of medical science and provide groundbreaking care, from discovery to delivery, and shape the future of healthcare.”

Other highlights for Northwestern Medicine hospitals in the 2023-24 U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings include:

In states and regions with more than one Honor Roll hospital, such as Illinois, the number one designation will be shared. Hospitals that are not on the Honor Roll will continue to be ranked within their state and metropolitan area.

AbilityLab and Lurie Children’s Receive High Marks

Meanwhile, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (previously known as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) continues to be recognized as the national leader in Rehabilitation, topping the U.S. News list for 33 consecutive years. The AbilityLab is the only hospital of its kind to hold this distinction.

Earlier this summer, U.S. News placed Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago as the top children’s hospital in Illinois, and seventh in the region (in the region that includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky) and ranked nine of its specialties in the top 25 nationally: neurology and neurosurgery at tenth, neonatology at 12th, urology at 12th, gastroenterology and GI Surgery at 13th, nephrology at 14th, cancer at 17th, diabetes and endocrinology at 17th, pulmonology and lung surgery at 19th, and cardiology and heart surgery at 23rd.
