Steven T. Rosen

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proclaimed November 9, 2011, Steven T. Rosen Day in honor of the physician’s contribution to the field of oncology.

Rosen, MD ‘ 76, is the Genevieve E. Teuton Professor of Medicine at Feinberg and the director of Cancer Programs at Northwestern Memorial. He has served as the director of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University since 1989.

The mayor’s proclamation emphasizes Rosen’s “uncommon dedication to patient care, to teaching and to research.”

With his visionary leadership since 1989, Rosen has ushered the Lurie Cancer Center into a position of national prominence, including attainment of the highly competitive “comprehensive” designation from the National Cancer Institute.

A rigorous scientist, Rosen’s research focuses on experimental therapeutics and hematologic malignancies.

“It’s a great honor,” said Dr. Rosen about the tribute. “I have been privileged to care for so many remarkable individuals, and am blessed by the most phenomenal colleagues and staff.”
