16th Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration & Walk

Sun. June 7th, 2009 in Grant Park

Sunday, June 7th’s 16th Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration & Walk, is the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University‘s salute to cancer survivors and the strides made in cancer treatment and research. This year, Be the Match, formerly the National Marrow Donor Program, will register potential new donors on-site, free of charge (Usually there is an average cost of $52 to register) as the Lurie Cancer Center honors stem cell transplant donors and recipients throughout the day. The Lurie Cancer Center is working closely with Children’s Memorial Hospital to register desperately needed donors, and make the day a meaningful and memorable occasion for all.

The leisurely four-mile, non-competitive walk, which begins in Grant Park at the corner of Columbus and Balbo Drives and continues along Chicago’s lakefront, is expected to draw close to 4,000 participants. The walk honors survivors, and all those whose lives have been touched by cancer. It also recognizes the achievements of the Lurie Cancer Center’s physicians, scientists and health professionals whose work is inspired by the courage they witness daily.

The celebration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk steps off at 9 a.m. A day of festivities for the family will include an opportunity to sign the Dedication Wall, refreshments, music, entertainment, and more. No pledges are required. The $15 registration fee includes a t-shirt, refreshments, and all the fun. Registration is $25 on walk day. Register online at www.cancer.northwestern.edu. For additional information call 312.695.1304.
