New Chief of Surgical Oncology Announced

David M. Mahvi, MD, has joined Northwestern as chief of surgical oncology and professor of surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine, as well as a member of the Robert H. Lure Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

Dr. Mahvi is on the medical staff of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His clinical interests include the surgical treatment of upper gastrointestinal malignancies (liver, pancreas, and stomach); the multidisciplinary treatment of breast cancer; and the combinations of surgery and liver tumor ablation for colorectal cancers.

“We are thrilled to have him join us at Northwestern,” says Steven T. Rosen, MD, Genevieve E. Teuton Professor and director of the Lurie Cancer Center. “He is a distinguished figure in surgical oncology and brings impressive clinical and leadership skills to our institution.” Most recently, Dr. Mahvi was the chief of surgical oncology at the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research interests include gene therapy for the treatment of cancer and the development of devices to treat liver cancer.
