Jameson Named to Inaugural Landsberg Deanship
CHICAGO—J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, who took office July 1 as vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, has been named the inaugural Lewis Landsberg Dean of the Feinberg School.
Dr. Jameson, who also was named Irving S. Cutter Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, is the 13th dean of Northwestern’s medical school.
The new deanship was endowed by leadership of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and its medical staff, Children’s Memorial Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital Faculty Practice Plan, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Faculty Practice Associates.
The deanship was established in recognition of Lewis Landsberg, MD, who served as dean of the Feinberg School from 1999â2007 and chair of the Department of Medicine from 1990â99.
Prior to his new appointment, Dr. Jameson served as Irving S. Cutter Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine from 2000â07. He served as chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Molecular Medicine from 1993â2000.
Dr. Jameson’s research focuses on the genetic basis of hormonal disorders. Author of more than 250 scientific articles, Dr. Jameson’s work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics, Science, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
He is one of the editors of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine and coauthor of DeGroot and Jameson’s Endocrinology.
Dr. Jameson has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Institute of Medicine, American Society of Clinical Investigation, and Association of American Physicians.
Recipient of the distinguished Oppenheimer Award and the Van Meter Award, Dr. Jameson has served as president of the Endocrine Society.
Prior to joining Northwestern University in 1993, Dr. Jameson was chief of the thyroid unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.
