Thomas A. Mustoe, MD, professor of surgery, has been elected to the American Board of Plastic Surgery’s board of directors for 2006â12.
Ronald F. Krasner, MD, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, is the 2006â07 president of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training.
Robert D. Goldman, PhD, Steven Walter Ranson Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology, has been elected to the presidency of the prestigious American Society for Cell Biology. He will serve as president-elect beginning January 2007 and president beginning January 2008.
Naveep S. Chandel, PhD, assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, has received the Mitochondrial Research Society’s 2006 Anthony Linnane Young Investigator Award.
Daniel A. Harrington, PhD, and Arun K. Sharma, PhD, resarch assistant professors of urology, have recently been recognized for their research accomplishments. Dr. Harrington received a first place research award from the Society for Pediatric Urology in May and Dr. Sharma the Spina Bifida Association of America Research Award in July.
Alan G. Micco, MD, assistant professor of otolaryngology—head and neck surgery, was inducted into the Triological Society in May. His thesis, “Electrical Resistivities in the Mammalian Cochlea after Neural Degeneration,” won the society’s Fowler Award for outstanding submission in basic science research.
Paul T. Schumacker, PhD, professor of pediatrics, received the American Thoracic Society’s 2006 Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishment. The award is given to individuals for outstanding contributions to the understanding, prevention, and treatment of lung diseases.
Toshio Narahashi, PhD, professor of molecular pharmacology and biological chemistry, has been elected a fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, the major scientific body of toxicologists in the United States.
Kevin B. Weiss, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Feinberg School’s Institute for Healthcare Studies, had been elected a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians.
Sandra F. Olson, MD, professor of clinical neurology, has been appointed to the Food and Drug Administration’s advisory committee on peripheral and central nervous system drugs.
John Varga, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, was recently honored as Doctor of the Year by the Scleroderma Foundation, for which he serves as chair of the Medical Advisory Board.
