M. Bento Soares, PhD, professor of pediatrics, has been named scientific director of the Falk Brain Tumor Research Program at Children’s Memorial Hospital (CMH). He also serves as director of the Cancer Biology and Epigenomics Program at Children’s Memorial Research Center (CMRC).

Daina Variakojis, MD, associate professor of pathology, received the 2006 Dr. John Gruhn’s Outstanding Pathologist Award at the Chicago Pathology Society’s annual meeting.

Marisa Klein-Gitelman, MD, associate professor of pediatrics, has been appointed head of CMH’s Division of Rheumatology, previously known as the Division of Rheumatology/Immunology. Immunology will now be part of the Division of Allergy.

Holly Falk-Krzesinski, PhD, deputy director for strategic initiatives at CMRC, has been named director of the Research Training Program there.

Joel Charrow, MD, professor of pediatrics, became head of the Division of Genetics, Birth Defects, and Metabolism at CMH. Previously the Division of Genetics, the name was expanded to reflect the scope of practice.

Marleta Reynolds, MD, professor of surgery, has been appointed head of CMH’s Division of Pediatric Surgery.
