Dudley S. Childress, PhD, professor emeritus of physical medicine and rehabilitation and of biomedical engineering, received the da Vinci Lifetime Achievement Award at the “Dinner with da Vinci” on October 21 in Chicago, organized by the Michigan chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The award recognizes his many achievements and inventions in rehabilitation engineering, including fitting the first self-contained myoelectric arm, developing the “sip and puff” wheelchair, and most recently, in conjunction with the Center for International Rehabilitation, creating the Shape and Roll® Prosthetic Foot, a durable, relatively inexpensive prosthesis particularly intended for use in economically disadvantaged countries.

Warren H. Wallace, MD, GME ’79, was appointed in September as the associate dean for clinical affairs at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Assistant professor of medicine, Dr. Wallace has been a member of the medical school faculty for more than 25 years and has served as director of the Department of Medicine’s residency program.

David H. Browdy has been promoted from assistant to associate dean for strategic planning and management at the Feinberg School.

Laurie Zoloth, PhD, professor of medical humanities and bioethics and of religion and director of the Center for Bioethics, Science, and Society at the Feinberg School, was named one of the 10 most outstanding Jewish leaders in Chicago by Jewish Week. Dr. Zoloth was also honored as the 2005 Alum of the Year by the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California, where she received her
PhD in 1993.

Ram Yogev, MD, professor of pediatrics, has been appointed director of the Experimental Therapeutics Program and of the Center for HIV/AIDS Research for the Children’s Memorial Research Center (CMRC). Dr. Yogev has been the principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health–sponsored Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, the largest NIH-funded clinical trial at Children’s Memorial Hospital (CMH), for more than a decade.

Stewart Goldman, MD, associate professor of pediatrics, has been appointed director of the Center for Clinical Trials Research at CMRC. He will head a collaborative effort to strengthen the foundation for effectively conducting clinical trials, complementing basic science research and enhancing CMH’s status as a leader in pediatric clinical research.

On November 1, Ermilo “Milo” Barerra Jr., MD, GME ’85, begins the second year of his two-year appointment as president of the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society.
