VA Chicago Moves Inpatient Care to West Side Division

On August 7all inpatient care at the VA Chicago Health Care System—Lakeside Division, located on Northwestern University’s Chicago campus, will move to the VA West Side Division, located on Chicago’s Near West Side.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is carrying out its Capital Asset Realignment for Enhanced Services (CARES) initiatives approved by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi in February 2002. A major component of the CARES study is constructing a 200-bed tower at West Side and discontinuing inpatient care at Lakeside.

Comprehensive primary and multispeciality ambulatory care will continue at Lakeside. Beginning in June, the emergency department at Lakeside is closed from 10 p.m.–8 a.m. daily.

At present the Feinberg School plans to maintain its VA affiliation.
