Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago bought four new Siemens MRI
machines to replace several earlier models when it upgraded its main imaging
center in early 2010. It made sure it added equipment with larger bore holes
and shorter tubes. The new clinic’s imaging rooms have softer lighting in
blue/green tones and nature images on the ceilings. Changing rooms have
private lockers and there are cushy chairs and flat-screen TVs in several
small waiting rooms. “We tried to make it like a hotel,” said Judith Wood,
manager for Magnetic Resonance imaging at the center.

Holly Gibout, director of philanthropy, was interviewed regarding the “Hearts
a Bluhm” campaign. Gibout comments that the campaign is exciting for the
Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and will celebrate heart health awareness
with 100 hearts up and down Michigan Avenue.

Rahul Khare, MD, emergency medicine, is quoted in an article regarding the
increase in patients reporting to emergency departments across Chicago with
winter-related injuries. Khare comments that Northwestern Memorial has seen
a huge increase in the number of patients who have fallen on the ice.
